Jobs for young people, social investment responses to economic crisis and the architecture of European Monetary Union were the key issues debated by MEPs, the Council Presidency and the Commission President on Wednesday, in the run-up to the European summit on 27 and 28 June. Decisions are being taken, but not put into effect, MEPs stressed. Parliament summarized the key issues in three resolutions voted after the debate.

 
 

The Conference of Presidents is very disappointed that the Council's reluctance to compromise has not yet allowed for an agreement on the MFF 2014 - 2020 to be reached. The European Parliament has already made far-reaching concessions, taking into account the difficult budgetary situation in the Member States, and is clearly showing its willingness to reach a reasonable deal.

El ritmo de la reforma del sector financiero es muy lento – la dilación en la adopción de nuevas medidas provoca incertidumbre en el crecimiento económico y la creación de empleo, ha expresado el PE en una resolución votada este jueves. Los eurodiputados culpan de este retraso a los países de la UE y a la Comisión, ya que algunas de las reformas prometidas deberían haberse aprobado hace ya un año.

Yet more can be done to improve its coordination with the Commission and the Council, political leadership, visibility and accountability, MEPs said in a vote on Thursday. In their input to this summer's review of the EU's new diplomatic corps, they also call for a sharper focus on strategic planning and crisis response delivery.

La Eurocámara ha aprobado hoy una resolución en la que expresa su profunda preocupación ante el "desproporcionado y excesivo uso de la fuerza" por la policía turca en respuesta a las pacíficas protestas del parque Gezi de Estambul. Los eurodiputados piden al gobierno turco que lleve a cabo una "investigación exhaustiva" de la violencia policial, que los responsables sean llevados ante la justicia y que se ofrezca una compensación a las víctimas.

 
 

Mutual recognition of professional qualifications: MEPs strike deal with Council

Doctors, nurses, architects and other professionals moving to another EU country will find it easier to get their qualifications recognised there thanks to a provisional deal struck by MEPs and the EU's Irish Presidency of the Council on Wednesday evening. It will bring in an electronic card listing professional skills and oblige professionals' home countries to do more to help them to obtain recognition abroad.
