Arutelu täiskogul: kas eurooplaste isikuandmed on USAs kaitstud?

Julgeolekuteenistuste poolne massilise veebipõhine jälitustegevus tuli ilmsiks 2013. aastal tänu Edward Snowdeni paljastustele. Kaks aastat hiljem, oktoobris 2015, tunnistas Euroopa Kohus kehtetuks senise atlandiülese andmekaitseraamistiku Safe Harbour. Uued reeglid ELi kodanike isikuandmete hoiustamiseks USA serverites on kirjas Privacy Shield nime kandvas kokkuleppes, mis tuleb parlamendi täiskogul arutelule kolmapäeval, 25. mail. Europoli laiemad volitused võitlemaks tõhusamalt terrorismi ja küberkuritegevusega said parlamendilt mai täiskogul kinnituse. Hinnates äsjaseid ettepanekuid Dublini reeglite reformimiseks rõhutasid saadikud, et ühenduse toimiva asüülipoliitika tagab solidaarsus liikmesriikide vahel. Türgil tuleb täita veel mitmed esitatud nõuded, et kindlustada oma kodanikele viisavaba reisimine Euroopa Liitu, ütlesid saadikud Strasbourgis. Endocrine disruptors : motion of censure on the Commission announced in plenary

In today's plenary session Vice President Ryszard Czarnecki announced that the President had received a motion of censure on the Commission, signed by the necessary number of MEPs, saying that the European Commission had failed to comply with its legal obligation to publish scientific criteria for defining endocrine disruptors. Kuni Hiina pole täitnud viit kriteeriumi, mille EL on turumajanduslike riikide määratlemiseks kehtestanud, tuleb Hiina importkaubale kohaldada "mittestandardset" metoodikat, rõhutavad saadikud neljapäeval vastu võetud mitteseadusandlikus resolutsioonis. Mittestandardset metoodikat tuleks kasutada dumpingu- ja subsiidiumivastastes uurimistes hindade võrreldavuse kindlaks määramiseks, et tagada võrdsed võimalused ELi tootjatele ja kaitsta töökohti ELis, leiavad saadikud. Human trafficking: MEPs call on EU member states to protect victims better

EU member states should do more to protect victims of human trafficking, especially women, and take gender-specific prevention, assistance and support measures to help them, say MEPs in a resolution voted on Thursday. MEPs renew call for mandatory country of origin labelling of meat and milk

Country of origin labelling should be made mandatory for meat and milk, MEPs reiterate once again in a non-binding resolution voted on Thursday. Mandatory labelling would help improve consumer confidence in food products by making the food supply chain more transparent, they say. Parental leave: MEPs call for common rules to be better enforced

The EU’s common rules on minimum parental leave should be better enforced EU-wide, says Parliament in a resolution voted on Thursday. Member states should guarantee working parents the right to take four months off, unpaid, regardless of where and how they are employed, and fathers in particular should be encouraged to apply for it, says the text. The European Commission's proposal for automatic exchange of corporate tax information among national tax authorities was welcomed by Parliament on Thursday as "a positive step in the fight against aggressive corporate tax planning". But MEPs also advocated adding further safeguards in the text to ensure that competition in the single market is not distorted by advantageous national tax deals with multinationals. Mislabelled fish: MEPs call for strong traceability system

Fish traceability  

A strong traceability system for all fishery products sold in EU restaurants and shops would help to prevent cases of mislabelling, said MEPs in a resolution approved on Thursday. A sound EU fish labelling policy would in turn boost consumer confidence and the economic development of the EU fishing industry, they added. Human rights: Mejlis ban in Crimea, arrests in The Gambia, elections in Djibouti

Parliament condemns the banning of the Mejlis, the representative body of ethnic Crimean Tatars, urges the immediate release of all protestors arrested in an April electoral reform demonstration in The Gambia, and calls for a thorough investigation into the transparency of the re-election of President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh in Djibouti, in three resolutions voted on Thursday.
