They explained their findings, which are based on 2.6 terabytes of leaked information compromising banks, heads of state, ministers, criminals and other clients of Mossack Fonseca, a company offering anonymity services and low tax solutions. Euro area economy showed resilience after UK referendum, Mario Draghi tells MEPs

The recovery in the euro area is expected to continue at a moderate and steady pace, but slower than envisaged in June due to a lower foreign demand outlook, European Central Bank President Mario Draghi told Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee members on Monday. On the positive side, he said that the euro area economy showed resilience to global and political uncertainty, notably following the UK referendum outcome. Plans to waive visa requirements for Ukrainian citizens entering the Schengen area were approved by the Civil Liberties Committee on Monday. If approved by Parliament and Council, it will allow Ukrainians who have a biometric passport to enter the EU area without a visa for 90 days in any 180-day period, for business, tourist or family purposes. De enquêtecommissie naar de Panama papers begint deze week haar werkzaamheden met een hoorzitting met journalisten die onthulden hoe belastingontduikers hun geld in belastingparadijzen verborgen. De industriecommissie bespreekt het nieuwe voorstel van de Europese Commissie om misbruik van de afschaffing van roamingtarieven te voorkomen. Van Syrische vluchtelingen op weg naar hervestiging in Europa, tot Palestijnse vluchtelingen die al jaren in kampen wonen: de delegatieleden van de commissie Burgerlijke vrijheden spraken veel verschillende mensen tijdens hun bezoek aan Libanon op 19-22 september. Ze waren daar om de situatie te bekijken voor de toekomstige regels voor hervestiging van vluchtelingen. Ze spraken ook met vertegenwoordigers van lokale NGO's en grote internationale organisaties. May en Schulz  

Zodra de Brexit -onderhandelingen van start gaan, zal het EP een verantwoordelijke en actieve partner zijn, liet Voorzitter Martin Schulz de Britse premier Theresa May weten. Schulz ontmoette haar tijdens een bezoek aan Londen op 22-23 september. Hij zei dat de grootste uitdagingen de handel zijn en de kwestie van het behoud van vrij verkeer van goederen, personen, diensten en kapitaal. What future for the Jewish communities in Europe?

The current situation in Europe of Anti-Semitism and future prospects for Europe’s Jewish communities will be debated at a conference hosted by EP President Martin Schulz and First Vice-President Antonio Tajani in Parliament’s premises on Tuesday afternoon. Members of the Euro-Latin American parliamentary Assembly “expect and hope” that the “historic” peace agreement between the Government of Colombia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) will be approved in the referendum to be held on 2 October. Once the deal is approved and the definitive and irreversible laying down of weapons is confirmed, they add, the FARC should be removed from the EU’s list of terrorist organisations.
