The European Commission calculates that the Juncker Plan for a European Strategic Investments Fund will create 1.3 million jobs, said Commissioner for Growth and Jobs Jyrki Katainen in a debate with Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee MEPs on Monday. If projects incur losses, the public share of their funding will take the first blow. "That's why they are interesting for private investors", he said. The Foreign Affairs Committee will discuss the situation in Ukraine with the Ukrainian Ambassador to the EU, Kostiantyn Yelisieiev, and representatives of the European External Action Service (EEAS) on Monday at 16.00. This follows the dramatic escalation of violence in the Donbas region in recent days, including the shelling of Mariupol on Saturday, which left more than 30 civilians dead. Poslanci se bodo ta teden na plenarnem zasedanju posvetili paketu vlaganj, ki ga je julija napovedal predsednik Evropske komisije Jean-Claude Juncker. Beseda bo tekla še o ukrepih proti terorizmu, poslanci bodo razpravljali tudi o pogajanjih o novem mednarodnem sporazumu o podnebnih spremembah. V Parlamentu se bosta mudila italijanski in nemški finančni minister, Padoan in Schäuble. Predsednik Schulz se bo v Pragi udeležil dneva spomina in holokavst. Poslanci o kvantitativnem sproščanju ECB

Evropska centralna banka je 22. januarja napovedala nov ukrep monetarne politike, imenovan kvantitativno sproščanje. ECB se je zavezala, da bo do septembra 2016 vsak mesec kupila za 60 milijard evrov obveznic, državnih in tistih zasebnega sektorja. Food safety MEPs call for country of origin labelling of meat in processed foods

Meat used as an ingredient in processed foods, such as lasagne, should be labelled by country of origin as is already the case for bovine fresh meat, said Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee MEPs on Wednesday. They call on the European Commission, which published a report on the issue in late 2013, to come up with legislative proposals in order to rebuild consumer confidence in the wake of the horsemeat scandal and other food fraud cases.
