New rules empowering shareholders to vote on directors’ pay, so as to tie it more closely to their performance, were informally agreed on Thursday. De irakiske yazidi-kvinder og aktivister Nadia Murad og Lamiya Aji Bashar, der overlevede overgreb fra Islamisk Stat, modtager Europa-Parlamentets Saharov-pris for 2016 tirsdag d. 13. december. Nadia Murad og Lamiya Aji Bashar undslap seksuel slaveri af Islamisk Stat og er efterfølgende blevet talspersoner for kvinder, der har været udsat for terroristgruppens seksuelle vold og overgreb på Yazidi-befolkningen. The EU Agency for Asylum must coordinate information exchange among member states and ensure they protect fundamental rights, said Civil Liberties Committee MEPs on Thursday. (Read more: New Asylum Agency must ensure EU countries respect common asylum rules, say MEPs )

 

A proposal to grant Spain €856,800 in EU aid to help find new jobs for 250 former car workers who were made redundant by 29 firms making motor vehicle parts in the Valencia region was approved by the Budgets Committee on Thursday. The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) aid still needs to be approved by the Council of Ministers on 12 December, and by a plenary vote in Parliament planned for 14 December. The EU Commission and member states will be able to reimpose visa requirements faster and more easily under new rules agreed by Parliament and Council negotiators on Wednesday. (Read more: Visa suspension mechanism: Parliament and Council negotiators strike a deal )

 

#EmergencyLessons: EU og UNICEF arbejder for uddannelse i nødstedte lande

Under #EmergencyLessons-arrangementet i Europa-Parlamentet opfordrede de unge til større international støtte til programmer, der hjælper børn med fortsat at kunne gå i skole.  

Omkring 462 millioner skolebørn i hele verden bor i lande, der er ramt af krige eller naturkatastrofer og ca. 75 millioner har behov for uddannelsmæssig støtte. #EmergencyLessons er eksempler på de kriser børn fra hele verden oplever og tirsdag d. 6. december mødtes børn, lærere og frivillige i Bruxelles i Europa-Parlamentet. Mandag d. 5. december talte Abdulrahman Al-Mawwas fra det Syriske Civilforsvar i Parlamentets Udenrigs- og Udviklingsudvalg om den nuværende situation i Aleppo og opfordrede til, at der laves en flyveforbudszone og humanitære indgange til området for at forhindre en menneskelig katastrofe. Syriens Civilforsvar, også kaldet de Hvide Hjelme, er lige nu den største redningsgruppe i det belejrede Aleppo, hvor tusindvis af mennesker forsøgte at flygte fra i sidste uge. Mandatory checks at EU external borders: deal done by MEPs and ministers

All EU citizens and third country nationals entering or leaving the EU will be checked against databases, e.g. of lost and stolen documents, under a draft law informally agreed by MEPs and EU ministers on Monday.
