Dan joħroġ minn regoli ġodda li l-MEPs ivvutaw fuqhom nhar it-Tlieta. L-inċidenti tat-traffiku kienu l-kaġun ta' 25,700 mwiet fl-UE fl-2014 - u dan l-apparat mistenni jnaqqas dan in-numru b'10% kull sena. Migrant deaths: MEPs to call for bolder action in debate with Juncker and Tusk

Refugees on a boat on the Mediterranean Sea between North Africa and Sicily who are being rescued by the Italian Navy  

MEPs are set to demand bolder action to halt the drowning of Mediterranean migrants and refugees in a debate with the Commission's President, Jean-Claude Juncker and Council President Donald Tusk on Wednesday at 09.00. The debate will focus on the outcome of the 23 April extraordinary European Council and a vote on a resolution will follow. MEPs set to debate “Luxleaks” whistleblower protection on Tuesday

MEPs are set to debate whether proper protection was afforded to the whistleblowers and investigative journalists who revealed the tax avoidance and tax evasion practices permitted by Luxembourg’s special tax rulings. New EU forest strategy: better management can boost rural jobs, say MEPs

The new EU forest strategy must focus on managing forests sustainably, promoting efficient use of the raw materials that they produce, and boosting the competitiveness of forest-related industry so as to create jobs, says a non-legislative resolution voted by Parliament on Tuesday. MEPs vote for sustainable fishing in the Baltic Sea

A multiannual plan for managing Baltic cod, sprat and herring stocks was approved by Parliament on Tuesday. This is the first such plan under the new Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), which took effect in 2014. Parliament supports shift towards advanced biofuels

Agriculture - Harvested grain corn and a flask of corn oil, used both as a cooking oil and a feedstock used for biodiesel  

A draft law to cap crop-derived biofuel production and accelerate the shift to alternative sources was voted by Parliament on Tuesday. Fish discard ban: MEPs delay sanctions

The Parliament debates on the multi-annual plan for the stocks of cod, herring and sprat in the Baltic Sea and the fisheries exploiting those stocks  

Fishermen will have two years to “adapt” before sanctions for failing to comply with the new fish “discard” ban take effect, under a law passed by Parliament on Tuesday. The draft law, already informally agreed by MEPs and ministers, amends the “omnibus” regulation on arrangements for enforcing the ban. Obliging fishermen to land unwanted catches, rather than throw them back, is a key aim of the reformed Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). (Read more: Fish discard ban: MEPs delay sanctions )

 

Ships’ CO2 emissions: MEPs approve new reporting rules

Draft EU rules requiring ship owners using EU ports to monitor and report CO2 emissions each year received the support of the House on Tuesday. The new rules, already informally agreed with the Council of Ministers, will apply from 2018 on to ships over 5,000 gross tons, regardless of the country in which they are registered, as a first step towards cutting their greenhouse gas emissions. European Parliament President Martin Schulz opens EP plenary with a minute of silence for victims of Nepal Earthquake and Mediterranean tragedies  

The session opened with a minute’s silence for victims of the Nepal earthquake on 25 April and migrants drowned in the Mediterranean on 20 April.
