Ebola-udbruddet i Vestafrika er en udfordring for den globale sikkerhed, fastslog Parlamentet i en beslutning den 18.9.2014. Siden da er smitten for første gang blevet overført mellem mennesker i Europa. Ifølge Europæisk Center for Sygdomsforebyggelse og - Kontrol (ECDC) er risikoen for at blive smittet med ebola i Europa stadigt ekstremt lav, men MEP’erne mener, at det internationale samfund har undervurderet krisen. Barroso's final speech and European Council debate

He will then debate with MEPs and Council the priorities for the 23-24 October European summit, including a new climate and energy policy focused on energy security; the economic situation in the EU; and international developments. Debate on EU countries' economic policy performance

Parliament will hold a debate on Tuesday morning with the Italian Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Finance, Mr Della Vedova and Commissioner Katainen on EU countries' progress in implementing the 2014 priorities for economic policy coordination under the European Semester. MEPs are expected to criticise member states for their poor implementation of recommendations they themselves endorsed and to suggest improvements. Parlamentet spiller en vigtig rolle i beslutningen om, hvem der skal være den europæiske tilsynsførende for databeskyttelse for de næste fem år. Vejlederen er ansvarlig for at beskytte personoplysninger og privatlivets fred samt fremme god praksis i EU-institutionerne og organer. I dag afholdes høringer af kandidaterne i Udvalget om Borgernes Rettigheder mellem kl. 19.00 – 22.30, mens afstemningen finder sted i morgen kl. 17.00. EU-budgettet for 2015: "Parlamentet vil kæmpe hårdt"

MEP'erne vil tirsdag den 21. oktober drøfte Parlamentets holdning til EU-budgettet for næste år og stemme om det onsdag den 22. oktober. Europa-Parlamentets Budgetudvalg anbefaler at annullere Rådets nedskæringer, men dette vil betyde, at næste skridt er at forsøge at nå frem til et kompromis i forligsproceduren. Vi drøftede spørgsmålet med Eider Gardiazábal Rubial, et spansk medlem af S&D-gruppen, der er ved at udarbejde Parlamentets holdning om det almindelige budget. The external and internal aspects of policies for combatting terrorism, radicalisation and the rising phenomenon of “foreign fighters” will be the focus of a debate between Foreign Affairs and Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs committees and Jean-Paul Laborde, Executive Director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate (CTED) on Thursday at 11:30. European Semester: act on your economic policy pledges, MEPs urge EU countries

EU countries need to do more to put their EU economic policy reform pledges into effect at home, especially in the euro area, urged Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee MEPs on Monday. Noting that only 10% of the European Commission's country-specific reform recommendations (CSRs) for 2013 were implemented in full and that little or no progress was made on 45% of them, MEPs also pressed the Commission and the Eurogroup President to see that they are put into practice. Over 3,100 workers made redundant by Peugeot Citroën Automobiles (PSA) in France and crude steel producer Carsid SA Belgium are to get EU aid worth €13.5 million to help them to find or create new jobs. The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) aid, approved by Budgets Committee MEPs on Monday, still has to be approved by Parliament as a whole and the Council of Ministers. Syria and Iraq: debate on the human rights situation of refugees

Representatives of UNHCR, the Yezidi federation of Europe and other organizations will assess the human rights situation in Syria, Iraq and neighbouring countries, with a focus on refugees and internally displaced persons, with Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights on Monday at 16.30.
