European Parliament's relations with Russia

Following the publication of the blacklist of European politicians and officials, the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, on Tuesday informed the Russian Ambassador to the EU that insofar as the Russian authorities have failed to ensure transparency in their decisions, in line with international law and legal obligations, and allow the targeted individuals the right of defence and of appeal, he considers that it is now justified to take appropriate measures in response. Measures to prevent and treat animal diseases such as avian flu or African swine fever were informally agreed by MEPs, the Latvian Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the European Commission on Monday. The draft EU law, on diseases that are transmissible among animals and potentially to humans too, will merge and update many scattered items of old legislation, so as to help prevent and halt new outbreaks and keep pace with scientific progress. Development MEPs call for action to target tax evasion in developing countries

Development MEPs called on companies in all countries to adopt country-by-country reporting and make all information public in order to fight tax evasion and illicit money flows in developing countries, in a resolution adopted on Monday afternoon. It also called on the EU's financial institutions to ensure that companies receiving EU support do not participate in tax evasion and avoidance. L’accordo UE-USA dovrebbe allargare l’accesso dell’Unione al mercato americano, ma non indebolire gli standard comunitari né il diritto di disciplinare l’interesse pubblico, secondo la risoluzione approvata giovedì dalla commissione commercio internazionale. Gli strumenti per risolvere le controversie fra investitori e gli stati dovrebbero essere riformato e migliorato, affermano i deputati. Juncker plan: MEPs and ministers strike informal deal to bridge investment gap

A deal struck by MEPs and Council of Ministers negotiators in the small hours of Thursday morning means the architecture of the Juncker plan to unlock €315 billion public and private investments in the real economy in 2015-2017 can now be put to a European Parliament vote on 24 June and the investment programme can kick off in the summer. Le abitudini alimentari sane si apprendono da giovani, per questo l'UE e gli Stati membri dovrebbero investire di più per incoraggiare i bambini a mangiare cibi sani e locali, hanno sottolineato gli eurodeputati mercoledì. Per garantire che i bambini seguano corsi per un'alimentazione sana e ricevano latte, frutta e verdure a scuola come previsto dai programmi UE, il Parlamento ha emendato il progetto legislativo e approvato il mandato per i negoziati con gli Stati membri. Still much to be done, CAR president tells foreign affairs committee

"The Central African Republic is doing much better. There is a clear improvement even if it is still very fragile," CAR's interim president, Catherine Samba-Panza, told foreign affairs MEPs on Tuesday. CAR still needs the EU's "multi-dimensional aid", she stressed, calling on member states to redouble their efforts to help the CAR meet its electoral, budgetary and security challenges.
