Grundlæggende rettigheder og ikke-diskrimination i søgelyset

En konference om grundlæggende rettigheder, ikke-forskelsbehandling og beskyttelse af udsatte grupper, herunder LGBTI, arrangeret af EP, Kommissionen og det italienske formandskab, finder sted den 21. november i Tirana, Albanien. Tidligere ordfører på en betænkning om homofobi og forskelsbehandling på grund af seksuel orientering og kønsidentitet, næstformand i Europa-Parlamentet Ulrike Lunacek, vil være en af talerne på konferencen, og vi talte med hende inden konferencen. The EU should provide aid worth €2.35 million to help find or create new jobs for workers made redundant by shipbuilders STX Finland Oy and the GAD abattoir in France, the Budgets Committee recommended on Thursday. The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) aid still has to be approved by Parliament as a whole and the Council of Ministers. Ny webportal for andragender: mere brugervenlig og gennemskuelig

Europa-Parlamentets nye webportal for andragender er nu online. Den er blevet totalt nydesignet for at give borgerne mulighed for at underskrive andragender online og bedre kunne følge forløbet i Parlamentet. "Hjernen er utrolig svær at forstå. Vi kender måske en eller to %," siger dr. Thomas Südhof, som vi talte med inden hans foredrag i Europa-Parlamentet den 18. november. Nobelprismodtageren i medicin 2013 var inviteret af Europa-Parlamentets enhed for vurdering af videnskabelige og teknologiske muligheder (STOA). SMV'erne, der repræsenterer mere end 99 % af virksomhederne i EU og udgør to ud af tre arbejdspladser i den private sektor, er rygraden i den europæiske økonomi. Men tingene er ikke altid let for dem. Derfor har Europa-Kommissionen lanceret et COSME-program, der har til formål at lette deres adgang til finansiering og markeder, forbedre deres konkurrenceevne og iværksætterånd. Parliament wants to reduce the growing pile of unpaid bills, while Council’s proposal, revealed on the very last day of the budget talks, only aggravates the payment crisis, said Budgets Committee MEPs after conciliation talks between member states and the Parliament broke down on Monday night. ECB President Draghi met MEPs today to discuss financial market issues  

The European Central Bank will take unconventional monetary measures if the economic situation in the euro area requires them, ECB President Mario Draghi reiterated to economic and monetary affairs MEPs on Monday. As the Banking Union takes shape, risks could migrate from banks to the non-banking sector, he warned. Also, speaking as chair of the Systemic Risk Board, he added that there is "a vast scope for more coordination of sanctions against banks between the US and Europe". Ebola crisis needs EU action plan with concrete measures, say development MEPs

The EU should come up with a detailed action plan to combat the spread of the Ebola virus, Development Committee MEPs told Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Christos Stylianides on Monday, after he briefed them on his four-day trip to the affected countries. MEPs highlighted the need to invest in these countries' health systems and not to reduce the EU humanitarian aid budget. EP should consent to EU-Georgia association deal, says Foreign Affairs Committee

The European Parliament should grant its consent to the EU-Georgia Association Agreement in December, the Foreign Affairs Committee said in a vote on Monday. The deal, signed on 27 June 2014, aims to establish deep political association and economic integration between the EU and Georgia, leading to the progressive opening up of their markets. Foreign Affairs Committee MEPs will meet Ukraine’s foreign minister Pavlo Klimkin at 15.00 in Brussels today to discuss developments in Ukraine following the recent legislative elections there and amidst the lasting crisis in the east of the country.
