Getting the European Youth Initiative to deliver jobs

EU member states need to make more efficient use of €6 billon in EU funds to ease the transition from education to jobs for young people and foster entrepreneurship, urged MEPs in Wednesday's debate on the European Youth Initiative. Some advocated simplifying funding procedures, sharing best practices, and promoting apprenticeships, whilst others urged member states to do more to exploit the job-creating potential of new energy-saving and green technologies. EU aid to help workers made redundant in various industries in Spain, The Netherlands, Romania and Greece to find new jobs was approved by the European Parliament on Wednesday. The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) funding, which would complement national efforts, now needs to be approved by the Council of Ministers. MEPs question high pricing of certain life-saving medicines

The pharmaceutical industry is raising the prices of new, life-saving medicines ever higher, thus threatening the equal access to treatments while increasing the burden on healthcare systems, said MEPs during a debate with Council and the Commission on Tuesday. MEPs split over EU free trade deal with Canada

Digital single market needs to be better integrated, say MEPs

More effort is needed to integrate the EU digital single market, so as to unlock its growth and job-creating potential, stressed MEPs in Tuesday’s debate with EU Internal Market Commissioner Michel Barnier. Measures to bring together the 28 national digital markets should include ending mobile roaming charges, promoting e-commerce, ensuring open access to the Internet for users and neutral treatment of its service providers, and also better data protection, they added. EU budget 2015: back your policy pledges with money, MEPs urge ministers

I maj 2014 var der 5, mio. unge arbejdsløse i EU. Onsdag den 17.9.2014 vil MEP’erne sammen med Rådet og Kommissionen vurdere forløbet af de to centrale programmer for det europæiske initiativ for unge: Den Europæiske Ungdomsgaranti og Ungdomsbekæftigelsesinitiativet (YEI) Følg debatten live på onsdag fra kl. 10:00. Historisk afstemning: EP-Ukraine aftale stemt simultant i Strasbourg og Kiev

Det var med en meget symbolsk samtidig afstemning i Strasbourg og Kiev, at det europæiske og ukrainske parlament godkendte associeringsaftalen EU-Ukraine tirsdag 16. september for yderligere at styrke de bilaterale forbindelser. Det var første gang, at en sådan afstemning skete simultant i Europa-Parlamentet. Aftalen er godkendt midt i den igangværende konflikt mellem Ukraine og Rusland, og på et tidspunkt med gensidige handelssanktioner mellem Rusland og EU. Europa-Parlamentet ratificerer associeringsaftale mellem EU og Ukraine

Europa-Parlamentet gav tirsdag sit samtykke til associeringsaftalen mellem EU og Ukraine, som også omfatter en vidtgående frihandelsaftale. Aftalen blev samtidig ratificeret af det ukrainske parlament i Kiev. Aftalen etablerer et omfattende politisk samarbejde og økonomisk integration mellem EU og Ukraine og opretter et gensidigt frihandelsområde. MEPs evaluate EU policy towards Russia

The EU should take a more proactive line on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and impose tougher sanctions on Russia, urged some political groups in Tuesday’s debate with EU Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Commissioner Štefan Füle.
