Schulz: "Temos uma mão estendida ao povo grego”

O Presidente do Parlamento Europeu, Martin Schulz incentivou, esta segunda-feira, "o povo grego a votar sim" no referendo previsto para este fim-de-semana na Grécia sobre as propostas de apoio económico e financeiro das instituições ao país. Schulz acrescentou que se trata de "uma mão estendida ao povo grego" e que o resultado do referendo é “fundamental” para a permanência da Grécia na zona euro. O Luxemburgo assume a Presidência do Conselho da UE a partir de 1 de julho. Cheaper mobile calls and open internet: MEPs and ministers strike informal deal

An informal deal to ban surcharges ("roaming fees") for making mobile phone calls, sending text messages or using the internet while abroad in another EU country from 15 June 2017 was struck by MEPs and EU ministers in the small hours of Tuesday morning. MEPs also inserted guarantees that all internet traffic is treated equally, without discrimination. To enter into force, this informal deal needs to be formally endorsed by the full Parliament and the Council of Ministers. TTIP: MEPs pave way for plenary vote by retabling June amendments

International Trade Committee MEPs on Monday paved the way for a plenary vote on the European Parliament’s draft recommendations for Transatlantic Trade and investment partnership (TTIP) negotiators, by retabling the June plenary amendments which had been referred back for reconsideration. The committee took the decision in two separate votes –one to retable the plenary amendments, and the other to retable requests for split or separate votes. Extraordinary meeting of the Conference of Presidents to discuss the latest developments concerning Greece with Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker  

Today the European Parliament's Conference of Presidents (EP President and political group leaders) discussed the latest situation on Greece with Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. The Conference of Presidents then discussed the situation further and adopted a position on the immediate next step that should be taken. Transport Committee MEPs will discuss aviation safety with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Executive Director Patrick Ky and the European Commission on Monday afternoon, after the Germanwings air crash in the French Alps in March. O Presidente do Parlamento Europeu espera que seja alcançado em breve um acordo sobre a Grécia, que permita que o país se mantenha na zona euro. “Temos que ponderar cuidadosamente os riscos e escolher o caminho que evite que os cidadãos, na medida do possível, paguem por uma crise pela qual não são responsáveis”, afirmou Schulz, durante o seu discurso no inicio do Conselho Europeu de 25 de junho, acrescentando que o acordo deve abrir caminho para a melhoria da sustentabilidade da dívida grega. The European Commission’s weak response to the first EU citizens’ initiative (ECI) petition, on the “Right2Water”, could discredit the ECI system, warn Environment Committee MEPs in a resolution voted on Wednesday. It “lacks any real ambition and failed to meet the demands of the organizers”, they add. ECIs enable citizens to ask the Commission to propose laws in areas within its competence, if they can muster at least one million signatures from at least a quarter of EU member states. Negotiations on proposals to revise the Interinstitutional Agreement on Better Regulation kicked off on Thursday with a meeting in the European Parliament between EP President Martin Schulz, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, Latvia’s Prime Minister, Laimdota Straujuma, representing the current Council Presidency and Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Xavier Bettel for the incoming Council Presidency.
