Mr Giovanni Buttarelli was voted top candidate for the post of European Data Protection Supervisor by the Civil Liberties Committee on Tuesday after three and a half hours of hearings on Monday evening. Top candidate for Assistant Supervisor is Mr Wojciech Wiewiorowski. The appointments still need to be agreed with the Council of Ministers. Denis Mukwege, ginekolog in borec za pravice žensk, je dobitnik nagrade Saharova za leto 2014, je danes odločila konferenca predsednikov Evropskega parlamenta, kjer sedijo predsednik Parlamenta in vodje političnih skupin. Po dveh petletnih mandatih na čelu Evropske komisije se Jose Manuel Barroso pripravlja, da bo posle predal svojemu nasledniku, Jean-Claudu Junckerju. S predsednikom Komisije smo govorili v Strasbourgu, kjer je Parlamentu na plenarnem zasedanju 21. oktobra predstavil oceno svojega zadnjega mandata. Gospodarska kriza ni nastala v Evropski uniji, ampak je posledica neodgovornega ravnanja finančnih trgov v nekaterih državah, je menil v pogovoru. Novoizvoljeni predsednik Komisije Jean-Claude Juncker bo v sredo dopoldne ob 9. uri evropskim poslancem predstavil svojo ekipo komisark in komisarjev ter njihov delovni program. Uvodnim izjavam voditeljev političnih skupin bo sledila splošna razprava o razdelitvi resorjev in prednostnih nalogah, opoldne pa bo Parlament glasoval o o celotnem kolegiju komisarjev. Boljše izvajanje priporočil o ekonomski politiki in več demokratičnega nadzora

V okviru evropskega semestra države EU usklajujejo svoje gospodarske politike, da bi tako ustvarile okolje za rast, zaposlovanje in uravnotežene javne finance. Vendar pa je treba priporočila, sprejeta v okviru evropskega semestra, bolje izvajati, so 21. oktobra opozorili poslanci. Zavzeli so se tudi za več demokratičnega nadzora nad sprejemanjem teh priporočil. Parlament bo sicer 22. oktobra glasoval o poročilu o evropskem semestru. Fundamental rights in Hungary under the spotlight

About 2,800 former workers at firms producing various metals in Spain, steel in Belgium, and cars in France and Belgium will get EU aid to help them find new jobs after Parliament approved the applications on Tuesday. The requests for European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) aid, together amounting to €15.2 million, also need to be approved by the EU Council of Ministers.
