Plans to make it easier to move money around within the EU’s long-run budget, to help tackle urgent challenges such as the migration crisis, strengthening security, boosting growth and creating jobs, were backed by the Budgets Committee on Monday. Parliament has long fought for greater flexibility within the Multi-annual Financial Framework (MFF), which would apply for the remainder of the 2014-2020 MFF. Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee MEPs have voted to close loopholes which allow some of the world’s largest corporations to avoid paying tax on profits by exploiting differences in the tax systems of EU and third countries. En debat om sikkerhedsspørgsmål med indenrigsministre fra Tyskland og Frankrig og besøg af den palæstinensiske præsident Mahmoud Abbas og Londons borgmester Sadiq Khan er på dagsordenen i denne uge, mens Storbritannien vil udløse Artikel 50 om udmeldelse af EU. Udvalg vil også stemme om ændringer til EUs langsigtede budget (MFF) og tiltag til at stoppe skattesvig af multinationale selskaber. Rom-traktatens jubilæum: EU fylder 60

For 60 år siden mødtes ledere af de seks oprindelige medlemslande i Rom for at skrive under på aftaler, der ville bane vejen for et europæisk fællesmarked, men også for en union, der står for fred og velstand, og som nu dækker det meste af kontinentet. Flere MEPer vil sammen med regeringsledere deltage denne weekend i fejringen af jubilæet i Italiens hovedstad på et tidspunkt, hvor retningen for fremtidens europæiske projekt bliver debatteret. For fire år siden kollapsede en bygning i Dhaka i Bangladesh, der huserede flere syværksteder, og slog over 1100 arbejdere ihjel, mens 2500 kom til skade. Stedet var samlingspunkt for tøj produceret for nogle af verdens mest kendte globale tøjmærker, og medlemmerne af Udvalget for Udvikling (DEVE) vil sikre, at det tøj og de tekstiler vi køber ikke er produceret på bekostning af sikkerhed, menneskerettigheder, sundhed og under arbejdernes værdighed. Plans to adapt more books for blind people backed by Legal Affairs Committee

New draft rules to make more books available in formats designed for blind and visually impaired people were approved by the Legal Affairs Committee on Thursday. The draft legislation, which brings EU law into line with the Marrakesh Treaty, provides for copyright exceptions for formats such as audiobooks and Braille.
