EU solidarity should not replace decisions that must be taken in countries suffering economic difficulties, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble told Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee MEPs in Tuesday’s special debate on the review of the economic governance framework. His Italian colleague Pier Carlo Paduan, vehemently rejected criticism of measures to bring down Italy’s deficit and stressed the need to better coordinate reform policies. A new, improved EU Transparency Register was launched on Tuesday with the aim of making EU-decision-making and the activities of lobbyists more transparent and more accountable while also giving lobbyists more incentives to register and making the database easier for lobbyists and the public to access. Juncker Plan will create 1.3 million jobs, Katainen tells economic affairs MEPs

The European Commission calculates that the Juncker Plan for a European Strategic Investments Fund will create 1.3 million jobs, said Commissioner for Growth and Jobs Jyrki Katainen in a debate with Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee MEPs on Monday. If projects incur losses, the public share of their funding will take the first blow. "That's why they are interesting for private investors", he said. Foreign Affairs MEPs discuss Ukraine following Mariupol attack

The Foreign Affairs Committee will discuss the situation in Ukraine with the Ukrainian Ambassador to the EU, Kostiantyn Yelisieiev, and representatives of the European External Action Service (EEAS) on Monday at 16.00. This follows the dramatic escalation of violence in the Donbas region in recent days, including the shelling of Mariupol on Saturday, which left more than 30 civilians dead. Unia Europejska i Stany Zjednoczone rozpoczęły negocjacje największej na świecie umowy o wolnym handlu, przynoszącej obietnicę większej ilości miejsc pracy i szybszego wzrostu gospodarczego. Mimo siedmiu rund rozmów, wiele kwestii wciąż pozostało nierozwiązanych. O przyczynach i prognozach rozmawialiśmy z szefem komisji ds. handlu zagranicznego (INTA) Berndem Lange (S&D). Food safety MEPs call for country of origin labelling of meat in processed foods

Meat used as an ingredient in processed foods, such as lasagne, should be labelled by country of origin as is already the case for bovine fresh meat, said Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee MEPs on Wednesday. They call on the European Commission, which published a report on the issue in late 2013, to come up with legislative proposals in order to rebuild consumer confidence in the wake of the horsemeat scandal and other food fraud cases.
