Healthy eating habits start young, so the EU and its member states should do and spend more to encourage kids to eat healthy and local foods, Parliament said on Wednesday. To ensure that they get healthy eating lessons, as well as school milk, fruit, and vegetables from EU schemes, Parliament amended draft rules and approved a mandate for MEPs to negotiate their final form with EU member states. Still much to be done, CAR president tells foreign affairs committee

"The Central African Republic is doing much better. There is a clear improvement even if it is still very fragile," CAR's interim president, Catherine Samba-Panza, told foreign affairs MEPs on Tuesday. CAR still needs the EU's "multi-dimensional aid", she stressed, calling on member states to redouble their efforts to help the CAR meet its electoral, budgetary and security challenges. Il Segretario generale delle Nazioni Unite Ban Ki-moon pronuncerà un discorso dinanzi al Parlamento alle 15.15 di oggi, incentrato sulle recenti tragedie dei migranti nel Mediterraneo e sul sostegno all'Agenda EU per l'immigrazione. A reform of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), informally agreed with the Latvian Presidency of the Council of Ministers, was backed by the Environment Committee on Tuesday. The reform aims to reduce the surplus of carbon credits available for trading in order to support the price of the emission rights. The scheme would start operating in 2019. Il progetto di legge per un quadro giuridico e finanziario comune per il latte e la frutta nelle scuole dell'UE verrà discusso e votato mercoledì, durante la sessione plenaria del 27 maggio. Esso ridurrà gli oneri amministrativi cercando di promuovere il consumo di frutta, verdura e latte tra i giovani europei. Il dibattito si svolge alle ore 15. Seguilo in diretta sul nostro sito. Parliament urges EU member states to gear up for new security challenges now

Today’s unprecedented level of instability at EU borders demands that the EU and its member states shoulder more responsibility for their security and defence now, say MEPs in a resolution voted on Thursday. They urge member states to use Common Security and Defence Policy tools more effectively, improve the fit between external and internal security measures, and pool and share resources, so as to counter terrorism, fight organised crime, strengthen cyber-defence and cope with migration.
