Political group and committee meetings, Brussels

TTIP. The International Trade Committee will vote on whether 116 amendments and requests for split or separate votes tabled to Parliament’s draft recommendations to EU Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership negotiators should be put to a plenary vote. These amendments and requests were referred back to the committee after the June plenary vote on the recommendations was postponed. (Monday)

 

Tax rulings. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs Pierre Moscovici will debate their corporate tax plans with members of the Special Committee on Tax Rulings. (Thursday)


Germanwings. The Transport Committee will debate aviation safety rules following the Germanwings jet crash in the French Alps in March with European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Executive Director Patrick Ky and the European Commission. EASA set up a task force to assess the preliminary investigation report by the French Civil Aviation Safety Investigation Authority, while the Commission will have to decide whether to update EU aviation safety rules. Anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and hate speech. In the aftermath of the attacks on French magazine ”Charlie Hebdo” and the “Hyper Casher” supermarket in Paris, the cultural centre and synagogue in Copenhagen and the counter-terrorism operations in Belgium, Civil Liberties Committee Members will debate discrimination, violence and hate speech against Muslims and Jews with experts and civil society organisations. (Monday)


Plenary preparations. Political groups will prepare the 6-9 July plenary session in Strasbourg, the last before the summer recess, focusing on long-term shareholder rules, the circular economy, the EU Emissions Trading System, copyright harmonisation, the 2016 EU budget and the Commission work programme. The Middle East peace process and EU-Cuba relations will be debated with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.

 

President's diary. EP President Martin Schulz will meet China’s Premier Li Keqiang on Monday and European Court of Justice President Vassilios Skouris on Tuesday. Mr Schulz will meet the Leader of the Turkish-Cypriot community Mustafa Akıncı on Wednesday and Chairman of the UK House of Lords European Union Committee Lord Boswell on Thursday. On Friday, the EP President will be in Kiev, where he will meet the Chairman of the Ukraine Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman, with whom he will sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the EP and the Verkhovna Rada. He will then address the Verkhovna Rada, followed by joint press conference with Mr Groysman. Mr Schulz will also meet Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and the Mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko.


Pre-session press briefing. The EP Press Service will hold a press briefing with the EP political groups’ spokespersons at 11.00 on Friday. (“Anna Politkovskaya” EP Press conference room, Brussels)
