On Thursday, 30 June from 9.00, the Budgets committee will hold a high-level joint hearing with the Civil Liberties, Foreign Affairs and Development committees on the budgetary implications of the refugee and migration crisis. The keynote speech will be given by Mr George SOROS, founder and Chair of Open Society foundations. Other speakers include the Commission's Directors-General for Budget (BUDG), International Cooperation and Development (DEVCO) and Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (NEAR), Directors of Frontex and the European Asylum Support Office (EASO), the UNHCR Europe Director, Secretary-General of the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) and Oxfam representative.
MEPs will discuss the past and present budgetary initiatives, solidarity and cost-sharing between Member States and the EU external actions' financing in relation to the crisis.
MEPs from the Human Rights and Security & Defence Subcommittees will discuss with experts the use of drones and the fight against terrorism - the impact on human rights. The joint hearing will address different issues such as the impact of armed drones on human rights, the perspectives of a policy response at EU level and the developments since adoption of EP resolution in 2014.
The invited experts are: Jennifer Gibson, Lawyer at Reprieve, Radhya Almutawakel, Member of the Yemeni Mwatana Organisation for Human Rights, Faisal Bin Ali Gaber, Yemeni engineer and drone strike victim, Peter Round, Director Capability, Armament and Technology at the European Defence Agency and Francois Rivasseau, Head of Division Security policy and Space policy, EEAS.
