The first panel will be dedicated to the topic "Removing obstacles: delivering freedom of movement, establishment and choice". In the second panel, experts will discuss "Internal Market barriers in retail": The Retail Market Roundtable will be opened by Anna Maria Corazza Bildt (EPP, SE), Vice-Chair of the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee. Dennis De Jong (GUE/NGL, NL) will be in charge of the wrap up and conclusions.

Control of the acquisition and possession of weapons and its aspects in relation to securityBrussels, Jòzsef Antall, 4Q2
Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs
Gun crime remains a significant threat. It has become clear that gaps in the current legislation on firearms and shortcomings in its implementation at national level make the EU vulnerable to criminal activity. To improve the EU's firearms control framework, the Commission has proposed several elements to amend the EU Firearms Directive (Directive 91/477/EEC as amended by Directive 2008/51/EC). The amendments now require in-depth examination as some regulations will require reference of closer inspection and subsidiarity (e.g. mandatory medical examinations, limit the period of validity of licences).
The aim of this mini-hearing is to gather the input of experts for its further work. The first discussion session, with Michael BENSTEIN, German Federal Police Office, will deal with technical issues regarding marking, deactivation, registration and authorisations of firearms. The second session, with Dr. Renaud BOUVET, Université of Rennes, will focus on licensing and medical tests.
