Il-programm ta' skambju għall-istudenti u għall-istaff li hu msemmi għall-filosofu Olandiż, Erasmus ta' Rotterdam, wasal fil-25 sena operattiva tiegħu. Sa mit-tnedija tiegħu fl-aħħar tas-snin tmenin kważi 3 miljun student u membru ta' staff siefru permezz tal-għotjiet Erasmus.
L-Erasmus hu parti mill-Programm ta' Tagħlim Tul il-Ħajja tal-UE, li għandu l-għan li jiżviluppa ħiliet ġodda. Il-għan ġenerali hu li jkun hemm Area Ewropea ta' Edukazzjoni Għolja u titħeġġeġ l-innovazzjoni fl-Ewropa.
L-UE pproponiet aktar fondi għall-Erasmus għall-perjodu mill-2014 sa l-2020. Wara l-2013, il-Programm attwali ta' Tagħlim Matul il-ħajja ser jiġi msemmi "Erasmus for all".
