Future of development cooperation: how innovation can help
The challenges ahead for development policy and how new technologies can help Europe to face them will be debated on Wednesday with lead MEPs, Bill Gates and Federica Mogherini.
The Committee on Development, together with the European Think Tanks Group (ETTG), are holding a public hearing on “Innovation in Development”. MEPs and experts will debate how development cooperation needs to change to take into account global challenges such as inequalities, conflicts and continuing migration flows, as well as to what extent new technologies can turn into game-changers.
Development Committee Chair Linda McAvan (S&D, UK) will open the hearing, followed by a panel discussion on development priorities for the next European Commission and Parliament, chaired by ETTG chair Simon Maxwell.
The second part of the hearing, focusing on Europe’s role in international development, is chaired by Mr. Maxwell, with the participation of Bill And Melinda Foundation Co-chair Bill Gates and EU Foreign Policy chief Federica Mogherini.
