Wijzigingen in mediawetten die het voor overheden makkelijker maken zich te bemoeien met de media in hun land, moeten jaarlijks op Europees niveau worden gecontroleerd. Dit staat in een resolutie waarover het Parlement dinsdag heeft gestemd. Om mediavrijheid en pluralisme te waarborgen, moet de richtlijn audiovisuele mediadiensten worden herzien en werkomstandigheden van journalisten worden verbeterd.

Europe on Track, a Spanish youth media project, was awarded first prize at the 2013 Charlemagne Youth Prize ceremony on 7 May in Aachen University. The second prize went to the photo contest Discover Europe from Poland and the third to the Youth exchange project "The Story of my Life" from Estonia. The Charlemagne Youth Prize is awarded annually to projects that foster a shared sense of European identity and integration among young people.

The deadline for the submission of applications for this year European Charlemagne Youth Prize 2013 has been prolonged until 18 February 2013. The prize is awarded to young people who have been involved in projects to promote understanding between people from different European countries.

De EP-leden stemden voor een resolutie die er bij de Europese ministers voor Werkgelegenheid op aandringt in februari 2013 in de Raad overeenstemming te bereiken over de introductie van de programma’s in alle lidstaten.

Plans for "youth guarantee" schemes to ensure that no young person in the EU is without a job for more than four months won strong support in the Employment and Social Affairs Committee on Tuesday. MEPs voted a resolution calling on EU employment ministers to agree in February 2013 to a Council recommendation that all member states introduce these schemes.

Four young Europeans, Ana from Spain, Elena from Italy, Ilona from Poland and Larkin from Malta, will join EU leaders in Oslo for the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. They won the drawing and writing contest organised by the EU institutions, in partnership with the European Youth Forum, on the occasion of the award of the Nobel Peace prize to the European Union.

The culture and education committee on Tuesday adopted the new YES EUROPE programme for youth, education and sport, merging all the EU programmes for education, training and sport and Erasmus for higher education. More than five million students, of all ages, should enjoy greater mobility and cooperation abroad thanks to €18 billion in EU funding for the years 2014 to 2020.

"lo sono Li", een film van Andrea Segre, werd woensdag in Straatsburg winnaar van de LUX Filmprijs 2012. De President van het EP Martin Schulz reikte in een officiële ceremonie de prijs uit aan Segre. De film onderzoekt de problemen van immigratie en het conflict tussen het behoren tot een traditionele gemeenschap aan de ene kant en individuele dromen aan de andere. Het vertelt het interessante verhaal van een vriendschap die stereotypes en vooroordelen tegen "buitenlanders" omver werpt.
