Parlamento Europeu aprova isenção de vistos para os cidadãos ucranianos

Os cidadãos da Ucrânia vão ficar isentos da obrigação de visto para estadas de curta duração na UE, de acordo com um regulamento hoje aprovado pelo Parlamento Europeu. A isenção aplica-se aos ucranianos que sejam titulares de passaportes biométricos e que viajem para a UE por um período máximo de 90 dias por cada período de 180 dias para, por exemplo, visitar familiares, em turismo ou negócios. Parliament asks EU Commission to press for full US-EU visa reciprocity

The EU Commission is legally obliged to take measures temporarily reintroducing visa requirements for US citizens, given that Washington still does not grant visa-free access to nationals of five EU countries. In a resolution approved on Thursday, MEPs urge the Commission to adopt the necessary legal measures “within two months”. Ukrainian citizens will be able to travel to the EU visa free under an informal deal struck by Parliament and Council negotiators on Tuesday. Once the change enters into force, and provided they have biometric passports, they will be able to enter the EU for up to 90 days in any 180-day-period for business, tourist or family purposes. O Parlamento Europeu aprovou hoje a revisão do mecanismo que permite repor a obrigação de vistos a nacionais de países terceiros em certas condições, como em caso de aumento substancial da migração irregular. As novas regras visam tornar o mecanismo de suspensão mais célere e flexível, possibilitando uma reação mais rápida por parte dos Estados-Membros e da Comissão. The EU Commission should comply with EU law by temporarily reintroducing visa requirements for US citizens, so as to encourage Washington to grant citizens of all EU countries visa-free access to the US, said a majority of MEPs in a debate in plenary on Wednesday. Plans to waive visa requirements for Ukrainian citizens entering the Schengen area were approved by the Civil Liberties Committee on Monday. If approved by Parliament and Council, it will allow Ukrainians who have a biometric passport to enter the EU area without a visa for 90 days in any 180-day period, for business, tourist or family purposes. Civil liberties MEPs back visa waivers for Kosovo and Georgia
