Refugees should not be equated with terrorists, many MEPs said during a debate on the terrorist attacks in Paris during the November plenary session. They also approved the EU's budget for next year, securing additional funding for tackling the refugee crisis and boosting economic growth. Meanwhile the Lux Prize, Parliament's annual film award, was given to Mustang, a film directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven about five Turkish girls breaking with tradition. The EU must take concrete steps to tackle the migration crisis and terrorism, such as building a partnership to this end with Africa, said MEPs in Wednesday’s debate with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and Nicolas Schmit, representing the Council Presidency. The debate focused on the outcomes of the EU-Africa summit in Valletta (Malta) on 11-12 November and the G20 one in Antalya (Turkey) on 15-16 November. The terrorist attacks in Paris have highlighted once more the urgent need for coordinated action by the member states and the EU to prevent radicalisation and fight against terrorism, says Parliament in a non-binding resolution passed on Wednesday. The resolution sets out concrete proposals for a comprehensive strategy to tackle extremism, to be applied in particular in prisons, online and through education and social inclusion. (Read more: EP calls for joint EU strategy to fight radicalisation of young EU citizens )

"It is by effectively increasing cooperation between member states - from security apparatus to intelligence activities - that we, together, can defeat terrorism, make our citizens safer and preserve our way of life", President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella told MEPs during a formal sitting on Wednesday. Mr Mattarella spoke about the future of the EU, and in particular how EU countries should respond to the threat of terrorism and the challenges of migration. (Read more: “Tackle terrorism in the light of our values” says Italy’s President Mattarella )

Multinationals should pay their taxes where they make their profits, according to one of the recommendations by the tax rulings committee, which were adopted by MEPs on 25 November. Report authors Elisa Ferreira (S&D, Portugal) and Michael Theurer (ALDE, Germany) told us it had been difficult for the committee to get answers from multinationals and member states during its nine-month investigation, but that its recommendations could lead to fairer tax competition.
