The European Commission calculates that the Juncker Plan for a European Strategic Investments Fund will create 1.3 million jobs, said Commissioner for Growth and Jobs Jyrki Katainen in a debate with Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee MEPs on Monday. If projects incur losses, the public share of their funding will take the first blow. "That's why they are interesting for private investors", he said. (Read more: Juncker Plan will create 1.3 million jobs, Katainen tells economic affairs MEPs )

The Foreign Affairs Committee will discuss the situation in Ukraine with the Ukrainian Ambassador to the EU, Kostiantyn Yelisieiev, and representatives of the European External Action Service (EEAS) on Monday at 16.00. This follows the dramatic escalation of violence in the Donbas region in recent days, including the shelling of Mariupol on Saturday, which left more than 30 civilians dead. Los eurodiputados de la comisión de Asuntos Exteriores debaten el proyecto de informe correspondiente a 2013 este lunes 26 de enero. Siga la sesión en directo en nuestra web. Parliament must use its influence on framing the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) rules to ensure that they serve all EU citizens, not just a few economic players and must therefore insist that the talks are more democratic and more transparent, said trade committee chair, Bernd Lange (S&D, DE), on Wednesday (Read more: Trade committee debate on new recommendations for TTIP talks )

Meat used as an ingredient in processed foods, such as lasagne, should be labelled by country of origin as is already the case for bovine fresh meat, said Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee MEPs on Wednesday. They call on the European Commission, which published a report on the issue in late 2013, to come up with legislative proposals in order to rebuild consumer confidence in the wake of the horsemeat scandal and other food fraud cases.
