The fees that banks charge retailers to process shoppers’ payments should be capped under uniform rules across in the EU following a deal struck by Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee and Council negotiators on Wednesday. The cap would apply to both cross-border and domestic card-based payments and should result in lower costs for consumers. (Read more: MEPs secure deal to cap card payment fees )

MEPs from all political groups expressed their concerns over the recent arrests of journalists in Turkey and condemned all actions against media freedom, in a plenary debate on Wednesday afternoon. They agreed that the deterioration in the rule of law and fundamental rights in the country is an issue that needs to be tackled. Parliament will put a resolution to a vote in January. (Read more: MEPs critical of breaches of freedom of expression in Turkey )

F'riżoluzzjoni li għaddiet nhar l-Erbgħa l-Parlament Ewropew qal li “jappoġġja fil-prinċipju r-rikonoxximent ta' stat sovran Palestinjan u s-soluzzjoni ta' żewġ stati, u jemmen li dawn għandhom jimxu id f'id mal-iżvilupp tat-taħdidiet ta' paċi, li għandhom jitmexxew 'il quddiem". Biex ikompli mal-isforzi diplomatiċi tal-UE fil-Lvant Nofsani, il-Parlament iddeċieda wkoll li jniedi l-inizjattiva “Parlamentari għall-Paċi”, li tlaqqa’ flimkien MEPs u MPs mill-Paralament Iżraeljan u dak Palestinjan. (Aqra iktar dwar dan: Riżoluzzjoni tal-Parlament Ewropew fuq ir-rikonoxximent tal-Palestina bħala stat )

Skont riżoluzzjoni li għaddiet mill-Parlament nhar l-Erbgħa, l-Istrateġija tas-Sigurtà Interna tal-UE għall-2015-2019 trid tkun waħda li “tadatta faċilment għal sitwazzjonijiet li jevolvu”, b’mod li madwar l-Unjoni kollha jiġu indirizzati l-problemi tal-ġellieda barranin, is-sigurtà fuq l-internet, it-traffikar tal-persuni, il-kriminalità organizzata, il-ħasil tal-flus u l-korruzzjoni. (Aqra iktar dwar dan: L-Istrateġija tas-Sigurtà tal-UE trid tindirizza theddid ġdid )

Stqarrijiet għall-istampa (it-tieni parti)

The EU should step up its efforts to help the steel industry out of the crisis, MEPs say in a non-binding resolution voted on Wednesday. They ask the European Commission to ensure that trade deals improve steel export conditions and check that EU competition and state aid rules do not lead to unfairness between EU countries. MEPs also call for investments in workers' education and training as well as in steel research. (Read more: MEPs urge EU to step up efforts to help steel industry out of the crisis )

MEPs call for a comprehensive EU approach to migration and more effort to prevent further loss of life at sea in a resolution passed on Wednesday. Parliament asks the civil liberties committee to assess the various policies at stake, draw up a set of recommendations and report back to plenary with a "strategic initiative report" before the end of 2015. At least 3 072 people died in the Mediterranean Sea in the first nine months of this year. (Read more: Migration: MEPs call on EU countries to share responsibility )

Nhar l-Erbgħa l-Parlament approva l-abbozz tal-baġit tal-UE għall-2015 u żieda fuq dak tal-2014. Il-baġit jipprevedi €145.32 biljun f’impenji u €141.21 biljun fi ħlasijiet għall-2015, kif ukoll żieda ta’ €4.25 biljun biex jitħallsu l-kontijiet dovuti fl-2014. (Aqra iktar dwar dan: Il-Parlament japprova l-baġit tal-UE għall-2014 u l-2015 )

Il-President Schulz ħabbar ir-rebbieħ tal-Premju LUX għaċ-ċinema għall-2014 waqt ċerimonja li saret fil-Parlament Ewropew nhar l-Erbgħa f’nofsinhar. "Ida" hija l-istorja ta’ tfajla li qed tfittex l-identità tagħha, storja personali emozzjonanti li tiżvolġi fil-kuntest storiku diffiċli tal-Ewropa tal-passat. (Aqra iktar dwar dan: Il-Film Pollakk "Ida" jirbaħ il-Premju LUX 2014 )

Moldova will be able to export up to 40,000 tonnes of fresh apples, 10,000 tonnes of fresh table grapes and 10,000 tonnes of fresh plums to the EU duty free, thanks to a proposal backed by MEPs on Wednesday. This should compensate Moldova's producers for their losses due to Russia’s politically-motivated ban on imports of Moldovan produce. (Read more: MEPs vote to open EU market to Moldovan apples, grapes and plums )

Seven applications for a total of €126.7 million in EU aid to help Italy, Greece, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Bulgaria cope with the aftermath of natural disasters in 2013 and 2014 have been approved by Parliament.
