The European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) must focus on currently underfunded areas, so as to complement, not duplicate, other EU budget tools, said MEPs at Monday’s expert hearing on the Juncker investment plan proposals. The hearing was held by the Budgets and Economic and Monetary Affairs committees with a view to shaping legislation for the investment plan. O plano de investimento no valor de 315 mil milhões de euros para estimular o crescimento na Europa é um dos temas em destaque esta semana no Parlamento Europeu (PE). A subcomissão dos Direitos do Homem organizou, esta quinta-feira, 26 de fevereiro, uma audição conjunta com a delegação parlamentar das relações com os países do Maxereque sobre a liberdade religiosa e de credo no Médio Oriente. O debate sobre a situação dos cristãos e de outras minorias religiosas foi presidido pela presidente da subcomissão e eurodeputada espanhola do S&D, Elena Valenciano, que descreveu a liberdade religiosa "como algo que a humanidade aspira desde tempos imemoriais." A Comissão do Ambiente do Parlamento Europeu apoia a reforma do regime de comércio de licenças de emissão da UE (RCLE-UE). O objetivo? Reduzir as emissões de gases com efeito de estufa e combater as alterações climáticas. O projeto de legislação aprovado pelos eurodeputados, a 24 de fevereiro, procura resolver o desequilíbrio entre a oferta e a procura de licenças de emissão, desequilíbrio esse que prejudica os incentivos no investimento na inovação ecológica. A Comissão do Desenvolvimento organizou, esta terça-feira, 24 de fevereiro, uma audição pública sobre a mobilização de recursos financeiros para o desenvolvimento global sustentável e a erradicação da pobreza nos próximos 15 anos. A audição, organizada no âmbito do Ano Europeu do Desenvolvimento, foi presidida pela Presidente da Comissão do Desenvolvimento, Linda McAvan, e contou com a participação do Comissário para o Desenvolvimento, agências da ONU, empresas e sociedade civil. Quarenta e sete indivíduos e associações receberam o Prémio do Cidadão Europeu durante uma cerimónia organizada a 25 de fevereiro, em Bruxelas. O Prémio reconhece a sua contribuição para a cooperação europeia e para a promoção de valores comuns através da defesa dos direitos dos grupos mais vulneráveis na sociedade, da melhoria do conhecimento da legislação e políticas da UE, do combate ao extremismo e da promoção da tolerância e do diálogo. Some 3,000 workers made redundant in Belgium, Germany and Poland in 2013-2014 should receive EU aid worth €6.3million to help them find jobs, the Budgets Committee recommended on Thursday. The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) aid still has to be approved by Parliament as a whole and the Council of Ministers. Next year’s EU budget priorities should be fostering growth by helping employment, enterprises and entrepreneurship, showing solidarity both within the EU and with countries outside it and putting EU finances in order by tackling the overdue payments backlog and reforming the EU revenue system, say Budgets Committee MEPs in a resolution voted on Thursday.
