A delegation of 7 MEPs, chaired by Tokia SAÏFI (EPP, FR) and Pier Antonio PANZERI (S&D, IT) is heading to Algeria to participate in the work of the International Election Observation Mission by observing parliamentary elections in Algeria. The other members of the delegation are Rodi KRATSA-TSAGAROPOULOU, (EPP, EL), Frank ENGEL (EPP, LU) Santiago FISAS AYXELA, (EPP, ES), Ines AYALA SENDER (S&D, ES) and Carmen ROMERO LÓPEZ  (S&D, ES).


The MEPs will observe in Algiers and surroundings and they will also meet the representatives of local media and the civil society. 12th May there will be a press conference on the outcome of the election where the MEPs will deliver their statement.

  • This week two important events on WTO are organized by INTA: 25th session of the Steering Committee of the Parliamentary Conference on the WTO and a public workshop. Steering committee will prepare for the plenary session of the Parliamentary Conference on the WTO to be held in Geneva on 15-16 November and adopt a draft declaration on the recent developments at the WTO. Public workshop will focus on the future of the WTO and International Trading System.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Association of European Journalists (AEJ), a seminar on media freedom in the EU Member States (including Croatia) is being held on 8 May by Parliament's DG Communication in conjunction with the AEJ.


The event will be opened by EP Vice-President for Communication Anni Podimata and AEJ President Eileen Dunne. A keynote speech will be given by Neelie Kroes, Commissioner responsible for the Digital Agenda for Europe.  A panel discussion will follow on how the EU institutions could work with the Council of Europe, the OSCE and NGOs on the subject of media freedom. The MEPs will observe in Algiers and surroundings and they will also meet the representatives of local media and the civil society. 12th May there will be a press conference on the outcome of the election where the MEPs will deliver their statement.
