Ljudje danes vse bolj sami organizirajo svoje počitnice. Ne potrebujejo več turističnih agencij, da bi rezervirali letalske karte in hotelske sobe, saj lahko vse potrebno sami postorijo na spletu. Parlament in Svet EU, ki predstavlja države članice, sta nedavno dosegla dogovor o zakonodaji, ki potrošnikom zagotavlja enako zaščito, ne glede na to, ali kupijo svoja potovanja na spletu ali od turistične agencije. Evropski denar podprl vlaganja v državah EU v času proračunskih rezov

Zaradi pomanjkanja denarja v času gospodarske krize države Evropske unije klestijo proračune in omejujejo javna vlaganja. Tudi zasebni vlagatelji raje čakajo na boljše čase. Zato so toliko bolj pomembna sredstva iz evropskih regionalnih skladov, ki financirajo projekte tudi v času krize in tako spodbujajo gospodarsko rast in zaposlovanje. Biogoriva: do okolju prijaznih goriv brez višjih cen hrane

V zadnjih desetih letih so se biogoriva pogosto omenjala kot alternativni vir energije, ki bi lahko prispeval k zmanjšanju izpustov CO2 v ozračje. Vendar pa se je izkazalo, da proizvodnja biogoriv vpliva na cene hrane: več kot je namreč kmetijskih površin namenjenih za biogoriva, manj jih je na voljo za proizvodnjo hrane. Commission to clarify whether minimum wage may apply to foreign lorry drivers

The question of whether Germany’s minimum pay rules should apply to foreign lorry drivers using its roads divided MEPs evenly in a debate with transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc on Wednesday evening. The European Commission is still assessing the implications of these rules, which the Germany partially suspended (for transit drivers) early this year, but they must in any event comply with EU law, she said. Parliament backs deal to make lorries safer and greener

The House approved rules on Tuesday that allow manufacturers to increase the length of lorry cabs if this improves road safety and environmental performance. MEPs call for EU aid to road hauliers in a debate on Russian import ban

Many MEPs called for solidarity among EU member states and concrete steps by the European Commission to aid road hauliers hit by Russian restrictions on food and farm produce imports from the EU, in a debate on Monday evening. The import ban’s impact on hauliers has been neglected, even though the EU has taken measures to support producers of fruit, vegetables and dairy produce, said Transport Committee MEPs in a question tabled for debate with the Commission. Tracing traffic offenders across borders: EP approves new data-sharing rules

Revised rules on the cross-border sharing of traffic offenders’ data, which should help ensure that drivers who commit offences while abroad in the EU do not escape fines, were approved by the Parliament on Wednesday. These rules, which aim to ensure equal treatment of drivers and improve road safety, will be extended to the UK, Ireland and Denmark within two years. Northern Ireland peace process: MEPs urge all parties to restart stalled talks

The European Parliament called on all parties to join talks to restart the stalled Northern Ireland peace process in a resolution voted on Thursday. MEPs stressed the need to combat low pay and unemployment, so as to halt violent and criminal efforts to undermine the process. Talks broke down in December 2013 due to disputes over issues such as welfare spending, flags and emblems, and parading. Pomoč iz skupne blagajne za države EU, prizadete v poplavah ali drugih naravnih nesrečah, bo dodeljena hitreje in učinkoviteje po spremembah pravil delovanja Solidarnostnega sklada Evropske unije (EUSF), ki so jih poslanci sprejeli v sredo. Spremembe vključujejo podaljšanje roka za vložitev zahtevka z 10 na 12 tednov po dogodku, izplačilo 10 odstotkov pomoči vnaprej ter poenostavitev pogojev za dodelitev pomoči ob nesrečah, ki prizadenejo regionalna območja. MEPs refer new rules on re-registering cars back to committee

Draft rules to simplify re-registering of car or motorbike when the owner moves to a new EU country were referred back to the Internal Market Committee on Wednesday for further discussion, because the Council of Ministers was not yet ready to close a deal on them.
