Noise-related operating restrictions at EU airports would continue to be set by regional and national authorities, but people living nearby should be better informed and noise-related health problems should be given more consideration, thanks to a deal between Parliament and the Council of Ministers endorsed by the Transport and Tourism Committee on Thursday. Parliament as a whole will now vote on the deal at the April plenary session. (Read more: Transport MEPs back deal on noise-related operating restrictions at EU airports )

Interview with Peter Liese

To get gas guzzlers off Europe’s roads, MEPS voted on new rules to give greener fuels a kick start.

To boost the take-up of alternative fuels in transport, EU countries will have to ensure that enough refuelling and recharging stations are available to enable cars, trucks and ships using alternative fuels, such as natural gas and electricity, to move freely on EU roads and waterways, under an informal agreement reached by Council and Parliament negotiators on Thursday.
