PURPOSE: The codification of the EU Directive on employees' rights in the event of transfers.
COMMUNITY MEASURE: Council Directive 2001/23/EC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to the safeguarding of employees' rights in the event of transfers of undertakings, businesses or parts of undertakings or businesses.
CONTENT: The Council adopted the consolidated version of Directive 77/187/EEC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to the safeguarding of employees' rights in the event of transfers of undertakings, businesses or parts of undertakings or businesses. The text constitutes an official codification ( 6) of that Directive without making substantive changes.
ENTRY INTO FORCE: 11 April 2001.
It should be noted that the deadline for the transposition of Directive 98/50/EC amending Directive 77/187/EEC stands. The Member States, therefore, have until 17 July 2001 to comply with the provisions of Directive 98/50/EC.
