European institutions in Brussels to hold an Open Day on 4 May 2013

To mark the Festival of Europe, the European Parliament, the European Council, the Council of the European Union, the Commission, the Economic and Social Committee, the Committee of the Regions and the Office of the Ombudsman held an Open Day on 4 May 2013.

An annual event

Robert Schuman, the French Minister for Foreign Affairs, gave the go-ahead for European cooperation on 9 May 1950. His speech, which aimed to eradicate war through tangible cooperation, is the foundation of the European Union as we know it today. This is the reason why we have been celebrating Europe Day together for the past 21 years. In 2013, the Festival of Europe took place on Saturday 4 May.

See you next year!!
