Question Time with the Commission

Question Time with the European Commission will follow a new format for a trial period starting in September 2011. Following an evaluation to be carried out in 2012, the new format may possibly replace the previous format for Question Time.

The new format is as follows:

  • Each Question Time has a specific horizontal topic and is based solely on the catch-the-eye procedure, with questions from Members alternating with answers by Commissioners; questions are no longer submitted in advance.
  • Three or more Commissioners with portfolios related to the chosen topic are all present for the full 90 minutes of Question Time.

For each Question Time, the specific horizontal topic is adopted by the Conference of Presidents. The topic is then published in the final draft agenda with the names of the participating Commissioners.

Question Hour with the Council, the President of the Commission, the Vice-President of the Commission/High Representative and the President of the Eurogroup

  • In accordance with guidelines established by the Conference of Presidents, specific Question Hours may be held with the Council, the President of the Commission, the Vice-President of the Commission/High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and with the President of the Eurogroup.
