EP President Jerzy Buzek receives the Bonifacio VIII Award

For his achievements in promoting the values of peace and human dignity, both in his personal and profession life, as an activist in the Solidarnosc movement, the President of the European Parliament and former Polish Prime Minister Jerzy Buzek will receive the prestigious Bonifacio VIII Award today at 17.30 hrs. The ceremony will take place in the President's office in the European Parliament in Brussels.

"I am deeply honoured to receive this award. The values that are expressed by the Boniface Academy are close to my heart. I have always believed in the notion of solidarity, not just between nations, but also within nations. In this European year of combating poverty and social exclusion, those values are even more important."

The well known Italian Boniface Academy is a non governmental organisation set up in 2003 in Italy. Its yearly International Award Bonifacio VIII aims at promoting human and Christian values which help to build a more just and fraternal world.

Eminent prize holders include Pope John Paul II, Prof. Rita Levi Montalcini and the Italian Presidents Oscar Luigi Scalfaro and Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.

Members of the visiting delegation from the Boniface Academy include Cav. Dr Sante de Angelis, President of the Boniface Academy and H.E. Mons. Edward Nowak, Archbishop and President of the scientific committee.
