Jerzy Buzek in Paris: "EU needs concrete projects"
After the meeting with President Sarkozy, President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek said: "We agreed that Europe needs concrete projects and visions. We can not work without it. The European Parliament has a big role to play after the Lisbon Treaty entered into force.
Both politicians discussed the place of the EU in the multipolar world. Mr Buzek commented: "Europe should know to cooperate with many different partners to tackle global problems. But we need the strong US-EU partnership, if we want to solve almost all global issues. To enhance a good cooperation with the US we need concrete European projects too. Americans are very pragmatic, if we have concrete projects, we will have an efficient, working partnership."
The EP President discussed with French President among others: next multi-annual financial framework and the need to keep balance in this context between innovation, cohesion and agriculture. Other mentioned topics were: the economic crisis, the creation of a European Energy Community, enlargement and climate change.
After the meetings in French Parliament President Buzek said: "We decided to improve the cooperation between the national parliaments and the European Parliament under Lisbon Treaty. We will work at the committee level."

EP President had meetings with Nicolas Sarkozy, the President of France, Bernard Accoyer, Speaker of the French National Assembly Gérard Larcher, President of the Senate, François Fillon, the Prime Minister, Bernard Kouchner, Foreign Affairs Minister and Pierre Lellouche, Minister for European Affairs. Jerzy Buzek held discussions with the members of the Committee on European Affairs of the Senate and National Assembly. The President, together with Pierre Lellouche, Minister for European Affairs met with high-school students to discuss European matters. The President visited a photo exhibition on Auschwitz prepared by students.
