The Community of Democracies is particularly close to my heart. It was established in Warsaw at a time when I had the honour to serve as Poland's Prime Minister. Speech by Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament, to the 'June European Council'
Brussels - 17/06/2010This is a fundamental European Council. The economic crisis affects us all; we are all in this together. The decisions taken today will impact the generation to come. What's more, Europe is in a worse situation than the United States or the emerging markets. Eurostat has already downgraded its prediction for this year's EU growth rate. We must meet our citizens' expectations as they are losing jobs and live in uncertainty. I think we should take decisions in three crucial fields. First of all, we must recover from the lack of trust.

Nanjing - 28/05/2010It is clear that the traditional transatlantic partnership between Europe and America is no longer enough. However, it is clear also that a G2 model of America and China is not an option. we must look beyond bilateral relations and alliances! In this second decade of the 21st century, the relative power of both Europe and the United States - and the rest of the so-called "West" - is already decreasing.
