Parliamentary questions
26 March 2009
E-0807/2009
Answer given by Mrs Ferrero-Waldner on behalf of the Commission

The Commission does not dispose, for the time being, of sufficient elements to allow for a precise estimate of the costs of the destruction caused by the State of Israel during the last Gaza war (27 December 2008 to 17 January 2009), and in particular damages caused to infrastructure built with the contribution of Community funds.

Nevertheless the Commission is currently funding a Damages and Needs Assessment Mission in Gaza under the auspices of European Network of Implementing Development Agencies (EUNIDA). Part of the mission's mandate is to assess the value of the damage and destruction to EU and Member State-financed infrastructure.

The follow-up given to the mission's report will be decided by the appropriate EU instances.
