Parliamentary questions
29 November 2010
E-7917/2010
Answer given by Mr Šefčovič on behalf of the Commission

The Commission would like to inform the Honourable Members that the quoted information is innacurate as regards the Commission's pensioners. Already in May 2010, the Commission published explanatory information on these questions, inter alia online(1).

As regards the persons referred to in the emails and Internet sources mentioned by the Honourable Members, they do not form part of the pension system provided for in the Staff Regulations as other rules apply(2) which fall primarily under the responsibility of the Council (see Article 243 TFEU). In order to obtain further information on rules applicable to specific members of other institutions, the Commission invites the Honourable Members to contact these directly.

For more detailed information on the pension scheme for European civil servants the Commission would refer the Honourable Members to the Staff Regulations (in particular Articles 83 and Annex VIII) (3).
