Parliamentary questions
20 December 2010
E-7923/2010
Answer given by Mrs Reding on behalf of the Commission

According to the law of the European Union, the conditions for obtaining and forfeiting citizenship of the Member States are regulated exclusively under the national law of the individual Member States. Issues ensuing from the definition by a Member State of the conditions for the acquisition of its nationality do not fall within the ambit of European Union law, and the Commission has no competence regarding what the Honourable Member describes as envisaged national measures.
