Parliamentary questions
18 January 2012
E-011244/2011
Answer given by Mr Piebalgs on behalf of the Commission

The Commission is aware of recent reporting by media on this question. It does not consider it appropriate to take measures limiting either trade in used garments, or export of these products since such exports take place outside normal commercial circuits and often as small-scale initiatives.

However, any negatively affected country could adopt appropriate protective measures in the framework of their trade policy, if they deem it necessary and if this is compatible with their international trade obligations.
