Parliamentary question - E-010526/2015(ASW)Parliamentary question
E-010526/2015(ASW)

Answer given by Ms Creţu on behalf of the Commission

1. The Commission is working on the actions presented in the Staff Working Document[1] on the results of the public consultation on an EU Urban Agenda: (i) identification of a limited number of priority areas; (ii) effective application of existing Better Regulation tools, in particular impact assessments and stakeholder consultations; (iii) improved coherence and coordination of EU policies with an impact on cities, and (iv) improved urban intelligence and benchmarking and monitoring of urban issues. This work is developed closely with the Council Presidencies, in particular the current Luxembourgish and forthcoming Dutch Presidencies of the Council as well as the European Parliament.

2. The Commissioner's Project Group on urban matters was set up by President Juncker and chaired by Vice-Presidents Šefčovič and Katainen with Commissioner Creţu and Commissioner Bulc as ‘rapporteurs’. The Group is leading on how work on ‘smart cities’ and the urban agenda can support the key political priorities of the Commission.
