Parliamentary question - E-006197/2017(ASW)Parliamentary question
E-006197/2017(ASW)

Answer given by Vice-President Mogherini on behalf of the Commission

The EU institutions are informed about several ongoing investigations and legal cases monitored by the diplomatic corps and civil society in the Republic of Moldova. The EU Delegation closely follows the developments and the news regarding the case of Mr Dorin Chirtoacă.

Adherence to the democratic principles and the rule of law — including the independence of judiciary, access to justice and the right to a fair trial — are key elements of the EU-Moldova cooperation and of the Association Agreement, and are continuously underlined in the official contacts between the EU and the authorities of the Republic of Moldova.

Information on the case of Mr Dorin Chirtoacă and on other cases will continue to be regularly shared with the European Parliament through monthly reports provided by the EU Delegation in Chisinau, as well as on the occasion of meetings or debates on the Republic of Moldova as appropriate or at any request of the European Parliament.
