Parliamentary questions
12 June 2018
E-002013/2018
Answer given by Mr Hogan on behalf of the Commission

1. The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) is supporting Community-led Local Development (CLLD) in rural areas across the European Union. In addition, and as stipulated in the Common Provisions Regulation(1), Member States and regions may use other European Structural and Investment Funds (ESI Funds) for the setting up and implementation of local development strategies. For example, the Regional Development Fund(2) is available in all types of regions and Member States can choose to use it also for CLLD in rural areas. At the moment, 18 Member States provide for the use of at least two ESI Funds to support CLLD Local Action Groups (LAGs) in implementing local development strategies.

2. The ESI Funds Directorates-General(3), together with the European Network for Rural Development and the Fisheries Areas Network, support the work of CLLD stakeholders. The assistance is provided in particular, via annual conferences organised in Member States(4), dedicated workshops in the framework of European Week of Regions and Cities, the creation of a common LAG database(5), and a cooperation partner search tool(6) which is open to all CLLD LAGs interested in cooperation.
