Parliamentary questions
12 July 2018
E-002177/2018
Answer given by Mr Vella on behalf of the Commission

The Commission has not received any information until now regarding the impact on fish stocks of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline construction.

According to the Union’s Environmental legislation (Directive 2011/92/EU(1) and Directive 2001/42/EC(2)), the monitoring of environmental impacts of a project has to be conducted by the entity in charge of the project execution and development and/or the competent national authorities.

Any impact of Nord Stream 2 on the overall development of fisheries in the Baltic Sea should be monitored by the promoter of the project after its construction.
