Parliamentary questions
14 September 2018
E-004030/2018
Answer given by Ms Jourová on behalf of the European Commission

The Commission refers the Honourable Member to the written transcript of the statement made on 4 July 2018 in which the Commission underlined that ‘[…] statements associating anti-social behaviour or criminality with people of a certain ethnic origin or nationality are stigmatising and totally unacceptable. They fuel racism and xenophobia, they can contribute to the spread of intolerance in society and they are therefore very damaging. Public authorities must distance themselves from, and actively rebut, such discourses targeting Roma, and proactively fight against racist and xenophobic behaviour.’(1)
