Parliamentary question - P-004121/2017(ASW)Parliamentary question
P-004121/2017(ASW)

Answer given by Ms Bieńkowska on behalf of the Commission

The Commission would like to clarify that aluminium composite panels are not covered by European construction product specifications under Regulation (EU) No 305/2011. The manufacturer is therefore not obliged to assess these panels on the basis of EN 13501-1, which is a classification and testing standard regarding the reaction to fire performance of construction products. The use of these aluminium composite panels in buildings is subject only to national regulatory provisions.

The Commission does not dispose of any information on the results of tests which may have been performed under EN 13501-1 to assess the performance of the products Reynobond PE and Reynobond FR. This information is in the hands of the manufacturer and the test laboratory, if such a test has been performed.

Following the Grenfell tower fire tragedy, the Commission is carefully examining further steps that can be taken at EU level. In particular, the Commission stands ready to create an EU-wide Information Exchange Platform for Member State authorities to exchange knowledge and best practice on fire safety issues and to share experience on lessons learned.
