A week of Committee meetings in Brussels mark the end of the summer recess and the start of preparations for the 6-9 September Session.
How to help the people of Pakistan in the wake of the devastating floods will be discussed by MEPs on the Development Committee and Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva on Tuesday. The week will also see the Civil Liberties and Women's Rights Committees deciding on new measures to combat human trafficking across Europe. Later in the week energy efficiency and renewable means of energy are likely to get more funding when the Industry, Research and Energy Committee meet Thursday.
On Wednesday Poland's new President Bronislaw Komorowski will be at the European Parliament during which he will hold talks with Parliament's Speaker Jerzy Buzek and Polish Members.
Overall this week will see MEPs prepare for the next Session of the Parliament the following week - the first after the summer recess. During the sitting from 6-9 September limits on animal testing, an anti-counterfeit trade agreement, press freedom in the European Union and same-sex marriages will be on the agenda.
Next week's Session also sees the first "State of the Union" speech in the European Parliament by Commission President José Manuel Barroso where he will debate the challenges the EU faces with Members.
