Widening the mandate and increasing the numerical strength of EU battlegroups (EUBGs)

to the Council
Rule 130
Agnieszka Kozłowska-Rajewicz (PPE)
In the face of the increasing threats and the intensification of military activity beyond the EU’s eastern border, and acknowledging the decision to enhance the battle-worthiness of EUBG troops by forming a Nordic battlegroup in 2015, I have the following questions about further steps to increase the strength and widen the mandate of EU armed forces:
- —Is the Council intending to broaden the mandate for EUBG action, in particular as regards territorial range and the possibilities for redeployment should action prove necessary?
- —Is the Council intending to increase the number of troops assigned to European battlegroups, and to form additional contingents with a focus on areas along the EU’s eastern borders?
- —Is the Council planning on or considering providing heavy equipment for eastern groups on a permanent basis?
