Parliamentary questions
21 December 2016
E-009717-16
Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 130
Claude Rolin (PPE)

 Subject:  Public health initiatives that the Commission must present
 Answer(s)
In the conclusions that it adopted on 19 December 2016 on ‘The protection of public health and the environment through the sound management of chemicals’, the Council provided a list of initiatives that the Commission was supposed to have presented in 2015 and that were still outstanding, namely:
A strategic approach to water pollution by pharmaceuticals, initially announced for September 2015;
The report on the assessment of chemical mixtures;
The revision of the EU regulation on cosmetic products as endocrine disruptors, which was expected before January 2015; and
The revision of authorisation procedures for substances with endocrine disruptive characteristics within the scope of the REACH Regulation on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals.

These measures are of the utmost importance as they will serve as the basis for the strategy to guarantee a non-toxic environment in the EU. In accordance with the 7th Environmental Action Programme (7th EAP, covering the period 2013-2020), the Commission must present the strategy, which provides a long-term vision for a non-toxic environment, in 2018. When will the Commission present the initiatives?
