Parliamentary questions
9 February 2017
Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 130
Michela Giuffrida (S&D)

Subject:  Public consultation on the revision of the CAP in English

On 2 February 2017, the Commission launched a public consultation entitled ‘Modernising and simplifying the common agricultural policy (CAP)’, with the aim of interacting with the greatest possible number of stakeholders interested in the future of the CAP with a view to its revision. However, the questionnaire is available only in English, French and German.

Many Italian farmers have expressed to us their difficulties in dealing with a technical subject in English and the impossibility of making a contribution in their own mother tongue has the effect of excluding them from the consultation.

By definition, a public consultation is targeted at all citizens of the European Union.

— Does the Commission not agree that public consultations should be available in all EU official languages? — What measures does the Commission intend to take to ensure that citizens of all nationalities are able to participate effectively in the European decision-making process?
