SILABE centre in Niederhausbergen

Question for written answer E-010346-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Dominique Bilde (ENF) , Sophie Montel (ENF)

In July 2014, the primate centre at Ford Foch, Niederhausbergen (Alsace), which is managed by SILABE (Simian Laboratory Europe) and is part of the University of Strasbourg, obtained permission to expand. The centre, which currently houses 687 primates, thus plans to double its workforce in order to accommodate 1 600 primates. This expansion goes against the European Union’s commitment to animal welfare protection, which commitment it has reiterated in various strategies, including the animal welfare strategy for 2012-2015.

1. Can the Commission confirm whether SILABE has received any European subsidies?

2. If so, on what basis, for which projects and for what sums?
