The introduction of digital technology to healthcare systems is a positive development which will benefit EU citizens. However, it is still not clear how data will be collected and used, especially in the management of chronic conditions like diabetes.

In its reply to Written Question E-000064/2015, the Commission stated that ‘the ongoing reform of the European data protection legislation is due to modernise the current rules and address the processing of personal data for research purposes.’

Can the Commission provide an update on its reply to Written Question E-000065/2015 on how patient data will be collected and used in the name of e-health systems across the EU?
